However, the building process can get a little tedious, and many people end up making mistakes that harm their vision. • Expecting your builder to give all the ideas–Although we’ve built hundreds of custom homes and can provide plenty of design inspiration, we want to follow your lead. If you saw a bedroom you love in a magazine, bring in the picture! Or, if your friend has a certain feature in their home that you want to include in your home, let us know.
• Getting lost in the details–Custom houses are full of details, and it can be easy to get lost in them along the way. To avoid getting overwhelmed as you pick out options and finishes, take things room by room and don’t make all your decisions at one time.
• Not expecting delays–Custom houses aren’t built overnight, and while we’ll give you a reliable estimate of when your home will be done, there still might be changes along the way. Be patient and remember that the building timeline isn’t set in stone.
• Not working with your budget–As you get started designing your custom home, you might find that you want to include features you didn’t originally think of. Instead of increasing your budget, find other places to cut back, so you can still get what you have in mind without overspending.
