When you hear the words “custom homes,” you might have a specific picture in your mind of what they look like, how the building process goes, and who lives in them, but you could be making a lot of assumptions that are not necessarily true. At Chad Goodin Signature Homes, we constantly come across people who have a limited picture of what custom homes entail, but what they are forgetting is that inherent in the “custom” element of these homes is the ability to make choices. Custom homes by nature are not all the same, so today we want to discuss some misconceptions people have about them.

Three Misconceptions People Often Have About Custom Homes
- They’re for wealthy people only – Not every custom home is a luxury home. Custom homes for people with lower budgets are built all the time. In some cases, building a custom home costs about the same or even less than purchasing an existing home, because you have the freedom to be strategic about how you’re spending money.
- “Custom home” is a misnomer – Some people have the idea that building a custom home actually means choosing from a limited number of plans or layouts that a builder has ready to go while allowing for minor modifications. Maybe some builders work that way, but we don’t and it isn’t the case for most other builders either. You can choose your own designs and layout to serve your specific needs.
- It takes forever to build a custom home – It doesn’t have to. When you know what you want and don’t get overwhelmed by decision fatigue, and when you have a project manager who is skilled at keeping everything moving smoothly and efficiently, it won’t take as long as you might expect.
